Manufacturers win as hearing to approve bill increasing taxes on manufacturing, mining, producing and processing products canceled

May 7, 2026 - We told you yesterday that HB 2243 (Rep. Wolfin) that would increase the sales tax on business inputs received a hearing in the House Rules - Legislative Committee. The bill would raise taxes by $35 million on Missouri manufacturing companies, mining operations, and other companies processing or producing goods and taxable services.

Associated Industries of Missouri was the only statewide business advocate to testify against and work against the bill.

The hearing at which the vote was to be taken on the bill was canceled. This is great news for Missouri manufacturers. While the bill may be posted for a vote next week, we feel much better about defeating this ill-conceived effort as the 2026 Legislative Session comes to a close Friday, May 15, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.

Many members of the AIM Tax Committee filed written testimony against the bill and those comments were successful. This is the power of Associated Industries of Missouri: working together as a group we can accomplish much more than any of us may accomplish on our own.
